Beginning to talk about sexual abuse can be scary. Maybe you have hidden it for a long time. Maybe you have talked about it before and it was too painful. It may feel like if you open up, you won’t be able to control the flood of emotions and pain that you have kept locked up so well. I understand these complexities and will never go faster or farther than you desire or can handle.
Therapy of this kind often involves talking through the abuse and working through the thoughts and behaviors that have been established as a result. Before we begin that portion of the therapy, we will make sure that you have all the skills and tools necessary. I have experience with multiple evidence-based therapies focused in this area and will work with you to identify the most appropriate and comfortable process for you.
What you would like to work on in therapy is completely up to you. If you feel like you do not need to talk about the abuse or don’t want to talk about it at this time, you can make that choice! You are in control of your therapy and my role as therapist is to guide you along the course to meet your goals.
